Why it costs nothing to try

Free

No sign-up, no subscription, no trial that runs out.

Runs on your PC, offline

Speech recognition runs on your own computer, so your voice never leaves it.

No account

One portable file. Download it and run it.

How to start

  1. Download mulbit.exe and run it.
  2. Follow the short first-run guide and check your microphone.
  3. Choose on-device recognition (downloads a speech model once, about 250 MB or 1.1 GB) or enter a Gemini API key.
  4. Hold G, speak, hold G again. Your words are pasted at the cursor.

Windows, macOS and Linux

Windows Stable

Windows 10 and 11

macOS Beta

.dmgv0.1.2 preview

macOS 13.3 or later, Apple Silicon. Intel Macs are not supported yet.

First launch

The app is not notarized. If macOS blocks it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/mulbit.app in Terminal. The hold key and pasting need Accessibility and Input Monitoring permission.

Linux Beta

AppImage.debv0.1.2 preview

x86_64. X11 recommended.

First launch

Full features need X11. On Wayland the hold key is unavailable, and pasting may fall back to asking you to press Ctrl+V.

The author has no Mac or Linux machine, so the beta builds have never been run on a real device. They have only passed automated build checks. If you try one, a note in Issues helps a lot.

Questions

Is mulbit really free?
Yes. mulbit is freeware: free to download and use, with no account and no payment.
Does it work offline?
Yes. With on-device recognition nothing is sent anywhere after the speech model has been downloaded once.
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 10 and 11.
Does it work on Mac or Linux?
There are beta builds for macOS (Apple Silicon, macOS 13.3 or later) and Linux (x86_64). They have not been tested on a real Mac or Linux desktop yet, so expect problems. Intel Macs are not supported yet.
Windows says the app is unrecognised.
The app is not code-signed yet. Choose “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Which languages can I dictate in?
Korean, English and Chinese are the focus, including mixed speech. The on-device model also understands many other languages.
Do I have to use the G key?
No. You can bind the shortcut to a spare mouse button, or start and stop by saying a word you have enrolled yourself. A short press of G still types g.
Where does the text go?
While you speak, the words appear in a small window that stays on top. When you stop, they are pasted at the cursor of the app you are in, and the transcript is saved as a Markdown file by date.
Can it be more accurate?
Add your own Google Gemini API key for cloud recognition, or try it for 10 seconds without a key.

Say it instead of typing it.
